Parent Pledge
Dear Parents,
We invite you to join us in signing the Parent Pledge.
Like many of you, we’re deeply concerned about the growing evidence that early access to smartphones and social media is harming kids’ wellbeing. Research links these tools to anxiety, depression, sleep disruption, self-harm and other serious risks. They’re designed to be addictive and developing brains are especially vulnerable.
We believe that childhood should be protected, not shaped by the pressures of growing up online.
That’s why we’re asking families to consider joining our Parent Pledge: a shared commitment to delay smartphones and social media until at least 8th grade. When more families do it together, it’s easier for everyone. No one wants their child to feel left out or be the “only one.” This is about strength in numbers.
Inspired by psychologist Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation, we believe that together we can shift cultural norms and expectations around tech use - starting right here in Blaine County.
We’re lucky to live in a valley full of opportunities for real-life connection and outdoor play. Let’s give our kids more of that - more time to be present, unplugged, and growing up at a healthier pace.
